Iraq agreed Monday to long-term international monitoring of its weapons programs and U.N. disarmament official Rolf Ekeus said there no longer appeared to be an immediate need for military action to enforce U.N. cease-fire resolutions.
Ekeus said he would recommend that the U.N. Security Council accept the agreement that he worked out in three days of arduous negotiations here, but he said he would not recommend lifting the U.N. ban on foreign oil sales by Iraq until its government gives a full and detailed disclosure of its weapons capabilities and suppliers.
