VANCOUVER, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 21, 1995--Leading the faxmodem industry into a new era of easy installation, Supra Corp. today announced its new line of faxmodems which deliver plug and play simplicity, with or without Windows 95.
"These products establish a completely new era of reliability, versatility and ease of use," says Supra's Vice President of Marketing James H. "Jamie" Cutburth. "Throughout the entire history of PC communications, the user has been plagued with installation and configuration headaches. Plug and play from Supra enables modem users to enjoy the benefit of no-hassle installation today, well ahead of Windows 95."
The first two models to be announced, the new SupraFAXModem 288i PnP and the SupraExpress 144i PnP, capitalize on the new plug and play standard, completely transforming a time-consuming installation process into unprecedented simplicity. Although these Supra plug and play faxmodems fully support Windows 95, a user won't have to wait until the new operating system ships to take advantage of plug and play ease. Both Supra faxmodems will offer plug and play installation to users running Windows 3.1 and 3.11. Supra's plug and play products will be certified by Microsoft Laboratories and the Plug and Play Association.
"The backwards compatibility of this product represents a tremendous advantage to the user," says PC Product Manager Kenny Richards. "It enables users to benefit from plug and play on legacy systems now, and then experience the same installation advantages after upgrading to Windows 95."
Kicking off an aggressive product launch with product demonstrations at Spring COMDEX in Atlanta, Supra plans to ship its ultra-flexible plug and play products in June. Furthermore, product will be available for evaluation on Windows 95 systems in mid-May and for evaluation on legacy systems (Windows 3.1 and 3.11) in early June.
Installation of an internal faxmodem was once an activity only the technically savvy could love. Trouble shooting system errors and IRQ conflicts, setting jumpers and coordinating multiple devices could take some users hours (or days) to figure out. Installing Supra's new plug and play modems takes only a few short minutes.
Once a user plugs in a Supra plug and play faxmodem, Windows 95 configures the modem automatically. As Windows 95 boots up, it runs through the inventory of devices which exist on the system. It then identifies the new Supra modem and assigns the faxmodem to an available Comport and IRQ. All of this is done seamlessly with little intervention from the user. The only expertise required to install Supra's new plug and play faxmodems is the ability to use a screw driver.
Users running a legacy system will also experience plug and play efficiency, but will need to run Supra's plug and play set-up utility first. (This utility installs plug and play services on the user's system.) When the system re-boots, all existing devices are identified and the new plug and play faxmodem is configured.
Supra is currently producing two high-quality plug and play models (14,400 bps or 28,800 bps) designed to appeal to a wide range of users. Both models offer top-rated fax and data software, a "made in the U.S.A." label and a five-year limited warranty.
The affordable SupraExpress 144i PnP, priced at only $89.95 delivers ultra-reliable 14,400 bps fax and data communications. It's a great choice for economical data and fax communications.
Delivering data speeds up to 28,800 bps, the SupraFAXModem 288i PnP, priced at only $219.95 is the best choice for transferring large files (transfer a megabyte in about a minute) and exploring the ever-expanding Information Superhighway. This powerhouse offers Supra's top-of-the-line features including: Silent Answer(TM) for fax/voice linesharing, Flash ROM for software-based upgrades and Caller ID for identifying incoming calls.
